چکیده

The tiny encryption algorithm (TEA) was developed by Wheeler and Needham as a simple computer program for encryption. This paper is the first design-space exploration for hardware implementations of the extended tiny encryption algorithm. It presents efficient implementations of XTEA on FPGAs and ASICs for ultra-low power applications such as RFID tags and wireless sensor nodes as well as fully pipelined designs for high speed applications. A novel ultra-low power implementation is introduced which consumes less area and energy than a comparable AES implementation. Furthermore, XTEA is compared with stream ciphers from the eSTREAM portfolio and lightweight ciphers. The high speed implementations of XTEA operate at 20.6 Gbps (FPGA) or 36.6 Gbps (ASIC).

Impossible Differential Cryptanalysis of the Lightweight Block Ciphers TEA, XTEA and HIGHT

TEA, XTEA and HIGHT are lightweight block ciphers with 64-bit block sizes and 128-bit keys. The round functions of the three ciphers are based on the simple operations XOR, modular addition and shift/rotation. TEA and XTEA are Feistel ciphers with 64 rounds designed by Needham and Wheeler, where XTEA is a successor of TEA, which was proposed by the same authors as an enhanced version of TEA. HI...

Threshold Implementation as a Countermeasure against Power Analysis Attacks

One of the usual ways to find sensitive data or secret parameters of cryptographic devices is to use their physical leakages. Power analysis is one of the attacks which lay in such a model. In comparison with other types of side-channels, power analysis is so efficient and has a high success rate. So it is important to provide a countermeasure against it. Different types of countermeasures use ...

A Crypt Analysis of the Tiny Encryption Algorithm in Key Generation

Encryption algorithms are used for security over wireless communications, but securing data also consumes resources. Major important factors to consider when designing a cryptographic system are performance, speed, size, and security. Tiny Encryption Algorithm (TEA), and the Extension of TEA (XTEA) are examples of cryptographic algorithms. There is a requirement to specify cryptographic strengt...

Meet-in-the-Middle Attacks on Reduced-Round XTEA

The block cipher XTEA, designed by Needham andWheeler, was published as a technical report in 1997. The cipher was a result of fixing some weaknesses in the cipher TEA (also designed by Wheeler and Needham), which was used in Microsoft’s Xbox gaming console. XTEA is a 64-round Feistel cipher with a block size of 64 bits and a key size of 128 bits. In this paper, we present meet-in-the-middle at...

A dynamical systems approach to the discrimination of the modes of operation of cryptographic systems

Evidence of signatures associated with cryptographic modes of operation is established. Motivated by some analogies between cryptographic and dynamical systems, in particular with chaos theory, we propose an algorithm based on Lyapunov exponents of discrete dynamical systems to estimate the divergence among ciphertexts as the encryption algorithm is applied iteratively. The results allow to dis...
